GOAT Network Launches BitVM2 Testnet, Marking Huge Step toward Native Bitcoin Security

GOAT Network BitVM2 is now live on testnet – the first-ever permissionless BitVM2 testnet.

Our BitVM2 testnet builds on GOAT Network’s recently released BitVM2 whitepaper. It marks a major breakthrough in the industry-wide quest to achieve native Bitcoin security.

BitVM2 is a permissionless bridge protocol that enables Bitcoin to verify arbitrary off-chain computations without a hard fork, using presigned transactions, one-time signatures, and SNARK proofs. It improves capital efficiency over BitVM by allowing anyone to challenge and penalize a faulty operator within three on-chain transactions and a delay of no more than 2–3 weeks, though it remains impractical for real-world deployment.

GOAT BitVM2 extends BitVM2 into a standard Bitcoin zkRollup by solving key limitations such as operator double-spending, inefficient reimbursement, and lack of incentives mechanism. The biggest advance lies in GOAT BitVM2’s impact on challenge periods. GOAT BitVM2 shortens the original 14-day challenge period of BitVM2 down to less than 1 day, outpacing all other publicly verifiable BitVM and BitVM2 architectures on the market.

Combined with GOAT Network’s decentralized sequencer and zkMIPS, GOAT BitVM2 enables GOAT Network to be the first native Bitcoin zkRollup with real yield.

GOAT Network BitVM2 uses a unique architecture that combines zkMIPS proof networks with a decentralized sequencer architecture and a unique economic model.

As discussed during our recent BitVM2 whitepaper release, GOAT Network BitVM2 offers solutions to numerous challenges that have plagued BitVM builds in the past, including inefficient challenging processes, operator double-spend attacks, and a lack of pragmatic and effective incentives for challengers.

GOAT Network BitVM2 thus offers a new, robust framework for zkRollups on Bitcoin. When BitVM2 on mainnet launches, it will enable GOAT Network to inherit real, native Bitcoin security – the holy grail for Bitcoin ecosystem chains aspiring to become a true Bitcoin Layer 2 network.

A huge part of GOAT Network’s mission is to contribute to the greater Bitcoin community. With that in mind, we have made the GitHub repos for our BitVM2 testnet open-sourced. You can review those repos here:

We are now publicly recruiting challenger nodes to help test the system. Anyone can apply to become a challenger here: https://forms.gle/KRNiyUBg6ECd1bt98.
